Launch of the Colombo Law Society (CLS) web site is scheduled for 7th December 07 at the CLS premises. The chief justice Hon. Sarath N. Silva will officiate.
Minutes of 1st Committee Meeting of the Colombo Law Society for the year 2008/2009 held on 14th February 2008 at the BASL Auditorium
The First Meeting of the Committee of the Colombo Law Society was held on 14th February 2008 at 3.00 p.m. at the BASL Auditorium. The said meeting was presided over by Hon. Sisira Ratnayake the district judge of Colombo.

4. Address by the President
The first item in the agenda was the address of the incumbent President Mr Upul Jayasooriya in his address he stated in detail of the good work carried out under his leadership to the Colombo Law Society. Further he requested the forthcoming committee members to sacrifice their valuable time to for the benefit of the Colombo Law Society.
He further stated that all the work carried out by the Law Society is been reported in the Annual report. He wholeheartedly thanked the Secretary of the Society Mrs. Pansy Joseph for the wonderful support given. He also thanked the Vice President Mr U R. De Silva. The Editor the newsletter Mr. V. Puvitharan and also Mr. Jagath Wickramanayake. He specially mentioned the names of Mrs. Anoma Goonetilleke, Mr. S. Bagirathan and Mr. T.G. Gooneratne for their services rendered.
5. Election of Office Bearers
Post of President
The Learned District Judge Mr Sisira Rathnayake called for nominations for the post of President
1). Mr. Janaprith Fernando’s name was proposed by Mr.T.G. Gooneratne and seconded by Mr. Athula Perera
2) Mr. Joe Rajakaruna’s name was proposed by Mr. K.S.Ratnavel and seconded by Mr. Nimal Weerakkody.

Accordingly Mr. Janaprith Fernando was declared as President of the Colombo Law Society for the Year 2008/2009 by a majority 07 votes. The Learned District Judge then invited the President elect to take the Chair.
Upon that, the election was held for the Posts of Secretary Treasurer Vice Presidents (02) Assistant Secretary, Assistant Treasurer, Editor, Working Committee members (06)
Post of Secretary
Mr. Binara Gunasekera’s name was proposed by Mr. S. Bagirathan and seconded by Mr Athula Perera. As there was no other name proposed . Mr. Binara Gunasekera was declared elected as Secretary.
Post off Treasurer
Mr. Binara Gunasekera’s name was proposed by Mr. S. Bagirathan and seconded by Mr Athula Perera. As there was no other name proposed . Mr. Binara Gunasekera was declared elected as Secretary.
Post off Vice Presidents (02)
1) Mr. Kamal Gunasinghe’s name was proposed by Mr. Mahinda Lokuge and seconded by Mr. S. Bagiraathan.
2) Mr. K. Kaneshayogan’s name was proposed by Mr. K.S. Ratnavale and seconded by Mr Abdul Raheem.
Since there was no other name proposed,Mr. Kamal Gunasinghe & Mr. Kaneshayogan were elected as Vice Presidents.
Post of Assistant Secretary
Mr. Ganesh Dharmawardene’s name was proposed by Mr. T.G. Gooneratne and was seconded by Mr4 S. Bagirathen. Since there was no other name proposed . Mr. Ganesh Dharmawardene was declared elected as the assistance Secretary.
5.6 Post of Assistant Treasurer
Mr. V. Puvithan’s name was proposed by Mr. Ahula Perera and was seconded by Mr. Dushith Johndasan. Since there was no other name proposed Mr. Puvitharan was declared elected as the Assistant Treasurer.
5.7 Post of Editor
Mr. Hemantha Situge’s name was proposed by Mr. V. Puvitharan and was seconded by Msr Dinoo Dharmaratne. Since there was no other name proposed. Mr. Situge was declared elected as the Editor.
5.8. Post of Working Committee Members (06)

2) Mr. T.G. Gooneratne’s name was proposed by Mr. Janaprith Fernando and was seconded by Mrs. Anoma Goonethilleke
3) Mr. S. Bagirathan’s neme was propoded by Mr. Dinoo Dharmartne and was seconded by Mr. Dushith Johndasan.
4) Mr. K.S. Ratnavale’s name was proposed by Mr. Abdul Raheem and was seconded by Mr. Methsiri Cooray.
5) Mr. Nihal Peris’s name was proposed by Mrs. Anoma Goonetilleke and was seconded by Mr. M.C.M. Muneer’
6) Anoma Goonetilleke’s name was proposed by Mr M.C.M.Muneer and was seconded by Mrs. P. Narendran.
7) Mr. Nimal Weerakkody’s name was proposed by Mr. S. Basgirathan and was seconded by Mr. Dinoo Dharmaratne.
8) Mrs. Pansy Joseph’s name was proposed by Mr.S. Bagirathan and was seconded by Mrs. P. Narendran.
9) Mr. M.C.M. Muneer ‘s name was proposed by Mrs Anoma Goonetilleke and was seconded by Mr. Mahinda Lokuge.
As there were nine(9) names proposed three members voluntary withdrew their names. They were Mr. K.S. Ratnavel,Mr. M.C.M.Muneer, and Mr. Nimal Weerakkody.
Accordingly Msr. T.G. Gooneratne, Mr. Nihal Pieris,Mrs. Anoma Goonethilleke, Mr. S. Bagirathan, Mr. Mahind Lokuge and Mrs. Pansy Joseph were declared elected as working committee members.
6. Address and the vote of thank of the President elect.
The President elect Mr.Janaprith Fernando addressed the members and thanked all the members who were present. He invited all the members to rally around Colombo Law Society and to render services for the benefit of all the Lawyers. Further he thanked Hon. Sisira Rathnayake The District Judge who presided at the meeting for his kind sentiments.
7. Appointment date for committee meetings
Mr. T.G. Gooneratne requested the Secretary to communicate with the BASL with regard to the appointment of delegates.
As there was no other business the meeting was terminated around 4 p.m.
